Young Blackburn’s Jared Harlock goal after signing his first professional contract with the Rovers

Teenage midfielder Jared Harlock believes signing his first professional contract with Blackburn Rovers is just the start for him and is aiming to grab a first-team opportunity if it presents itself.

The 18-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year contract that runs until the summer of 2023.

Harlock has been at Ewood Park since the age of six, although he left shortly after to join the Liverpool youth.

He returned to Rovers at the Under-14 level and has become a regular at the club’s Under-18s and development side of Billy Barr, who finished fourth in Premier League 2 last season.

And after securing the first professional contract of his career, Harlock is aiming for a regular spot in the club’s Under-23 roster, hoping to catch Tony Mowbray’s attention for a shot at the first team.

“It’s a great feeling to sign because I’ve really enjoyed being here for the past five years,” Harlock told the club’s website.

“I was made to sign and I can only thank the Rovers for everything the club has done for me.

“It’s only the beginning now, it’s something my family and I have dreamed of, getting this professional contract.

“It’s a dream come true and now it’s time to get ready to kick off the season.

“Rovers are a great club and there are a lot of opportunities for the players here. I recently saw a statistic that showed how there was an Academy graduate on the squad for the last 500 first team games.

“I hope I can take an opportunity if it presents itself to me next season.

“We have a real bond here within our group, we have a spirit and I grew up with a lot of young guys who have progressed from the Academy,” he added.

“I want to get a place in the U23 starting squad next season and show my ability in front of the blunderer to get involved in the first team at some point next season.”
