Whitworth students win two trampoline titles

TALENTED trampolinists from Whitworth Community High School won team gold and silver titles in a district competition.

The competition was open to Rossendale High Schools and was held in the movement room at Valley Leadership Academy in Stacksteads and five of the team members also scored the most points.

The school’s ‘golden team’ of 11 years; Ellie Kenyon, Molly Brooks, Ashleigh Turner and Jessica Bagshaw won gold, with Ellie scoring the highest individual points and Molly second.

Silver team of year 9 Louise Journeaux and Millie Nuttall and year 7 Poppy Griffiths also won the trophy and individually Louise finished first, Millie second and Poppy third.

The students practiced regularly at the school before the competition and were delighted to achieve such a good score.

Louise said: “We all had to perform the same routine and I assumed I had done well, then got the highest score, with Millie next, then Poppy.”

Poppy said: “It was a bit scary, but we had done a lot of practice at school before. I was very surprised to have come third.

The school’s second silver team of 9th grade Rosie Griffiths, 8th grade Lyla Briddon, and 7th grade Zara Leech earned third place in the team competition.

Students Jacob Hall, Chloe Walker and Elise Thompson also competed.
