Tyrhys Dolan’s plea in England justified as Blackburn Rovers ace takes advantage of championship exposure

Blackburn Rovers’ teenage ace Tyrhys Dolan has expressed his desire to represent England at the Under-20 level – and why wouldn’t he?

The forward has appeared in every Rovers Championship game so far this campaign, scoring three goals in all competitions, halfway to his total from the previous season.

Following the departure of Adam Armstrong, Dolan asserted himself as a regular holder alongside Tony Mowbray with a series of impressive outings.

He has become the youngest player since Damien Duff to make 50 senior club appearances, but if he continues to defy expectations others are starting to realize more of the talent the Rovers have.

Huddersfield Town has inundated him with a couple of scorers on countless occasions, eager to spread his spark and there will likely be more and more attentive opposition to Dolan’s influence going forward.

The next step for Dolan, while continuing his national form, would be international recognition and the 19-year-old is aware of the weight regular championship football can take when he enters the roster of England’s youngsters.

“I feel like I’ve been ignored,” Dolan told the BBC.

“I’m playing with Leighton Clarkson right now and he’s on loan from Liverpool and he’s in England’s Under-20s.

“I played with Taylor Harwood-Bellis last season for Blackburn and he’s now made the jump to the Under-21s.

“There are a lot of top class players who are very talented. But I’m a talented player myself and I’m finishing and doing really well at a very good level. I just wish I had the opportunity.

“Any player wants to play for their country and for me there is nothing more that I want to do.”

And Dolan is absolutely right to express this point of view publicly. Among the attacking and midfield options Andy Edwards has for his game against Romania in early September, no player has racked up more first-team minutes than Dolan. Louie Sibley of County Derby is second after appearing in nine of the Rams’ first 10 league games.

In the England U20 squad, players who have yet to appear in the senior league this campaign include Miguel Azeez (Arsenal), Lewis Bate (Leeds United), James McAtee (Manchester City), Joseph Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood (Leeds United), Jaden Philogene- Bidace (Aston Villa).

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has made a substitute appearance for Crystal Palace in the Premier League while Morgan Rogers, on loan from Manchester City at Bournemouth, has made six substitute appearances in the league.

Even Nottingham Forest’s Alex Mighten, billed as a league star, has already played less than half the minutes Dolan has this campaign while Jensen Weir, on loan with League One team Cambridge United from Brighton, has totaled 90 minutes in four meetings.

Players are chosen on the basis of their talent – which Dolan unearths – but there must be some degree of consideration for an individual’s regular involvement in the first team scene. If James Hill of Fleetwood Town is included, Dolan is a prime candidate going forward.

A drop in international recognition can help confidence flourish, not that Dolan needs a psychological boost, but the opportunity to train with a different group under various influences in great facilities does not. should not be underestimated.

Dolan has been ahead of the game in terms of professional exposure compared to a lot of people in a same age group, but it was all about him who managed to make his way into the Rovers squad. by seizing an opportunity and demonstrating that continued hard work and persistence can be rewarded.

And the more players the Rovers have on the international stage, the more we can take advantage of the national break.
