Burnley are confident they can strike a deal with Wolfsburg for prolific Dutch international striker Wout Weghorst.

The 6ft6′ Weghorst, 29, wants to come to the Premier League and Burnley are trying to agree terms after talks with Wolfsburg broke down last week.

Burnley checked on QPR’s Lyndon Dykes on Tuesday and discussed free agent Andy Carroll as well as Cardiff’s Kieffer Moore, who is on offer from Bournemouth.

Burnley’s campaign has been beset by postponements and they are currently bottom of the league on just 12 points, four points from safety.

But having played four games less than 17th-placed Norwich City, Burnley boss Sean Dyche knows his side can get to safety with attacking reinforcements.

Dyche was frustrated to see Wood’s £25m release clause triggered by Newcastle, taking a player who had scored 53 goals in 165 games for them out of the squad and into a relegation rival’s roster.

Weghorst scored 20 Bundesliga goals last season and with Wolfsburg struggling this time around, he is now desperate to try his game in England.

The 29-year-old has already attracted interest from Tottenham but it could be Turf Moor where he can cut his teeth in English football if talks progress.

Burnley are also finalizing the £7million signing of Dinamo Zagreb winger Mislav Orsic.
