The Burnley artist captures footage of a man swimming in the Irish Sea in Blackpool moments before he was rescued by the RNLI

Janet Whitley was quietly having a drink on the North Pier, snapping pictures of the sunset, when she suddenly spotted the man. She said: “I saw something dancing in the water and then I realized it was a man.

“I couldn’t believe it at first because he was quite far away and even though the sun had just set it must have been so cold in the water and I noticed he wasn’t wearing a top.”

Janet alerted her musician husband Scott to the man and the duo, who regularly visit the station, expressed concern for his safety.
