A semi-professional footballer and weightlifter for Team GB is about to open a new gym in an empty industrial unit in Burnley.
A planning application has been submitted to Burnley Borough Council to change the use of a unit at Kestrel Court in Hapton from storage to personal training.
The unit was previously occupied by Preston-based Tran-Z-Parts, which sells truck and trailer parts, as a satellite storage space.

The new gymnasium, set up by Change Gym Ltd, will initially have two personal trainers, growing to five members of staff in the first year, and aims to “help local communities thrive, improve their fitness, improve their well-being and promote their transformation,” the app reveals.
One of the personal trainers plays semi-professional football for Colne FC while the other is with the Great Britain powerlifting team. Their names are not included in the application.
The gym is not intended to be a ‘walk-in’ center and will instead offer bespoke sessions and individual training.
Documents submitted with the application state: “It is intended that the business will become affiliated with the British Weightlifting and Powerlifting Associations and potentially be a venue for future competitions once established.
“In addition, there are plans to work closely with local businesses (particularly those in the business park) to offer corporate memberships to staff and to establish links with associated industries who can provide customers with services (diet planning, diet, clothing, etc.) to help them achieve their fitness/lifestyle goals.”
The personal trainers hope to forge links with local junior sports teams to “expand the offerings for children and young adults to promote healthy lifestyles from an early age.”
A final decision will be made after a period of public consultation.
