Strictly is set to return to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom for the first time in three years

Strictly Come Dancing is set to return to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom for the first time in three years, according to local reports.

The BBC pageant ended the dazzling annual extravaganza during the coronavirus pandemic.

However, although there are still months until the show returns to Blackpool in November, staff at the venue and nearby hotels have been told to prepare for the influx of dancers and celebrities.

This year will mark the 20th series of Strictly and the producers are doing everything possible to make this series the most spectacular.

A TV insider said The sun: ‘Blackpool Week is such an important part of Strictly and everyone was bummed that they couldn’t go for the past two years.

“The production team is working on the logistics but everyone is really hoping the show can get back there for 2022.

“And the fact that it will reach the historic 20th series makes it all the more important.”

Since 2013, the Blackpool Ballroom has had an annual slot on the BBC show where celebrities can perform under the dazzling lights.

The dance show, hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, could also see full audiences watching the celebrities perform for the first time since Covid.

Strictly is set to return to screens this fall, with a star-studded lineup no doubt assured upfront.

And it looks like the dance show is targeting Steph McGovern, as they want to lock him down for the new season.

The news comes as the Channel 4 presenter, 40, previously admitted to turning down the chance to star on the show.

A TV insider told The Sun: “Steph has the personality and the profile that makes him a perfect choice in the eyes of the producers of Strictly.

“They completely understood why she had to say no in the past. She had just established Packed Lunch on Channel 4 and wanted to devote her full attention to it.

“But now it’s a fixed element in the schedules. It was nominated for a BAFTA earlier this year and it was only last month that it was announced that it had been recommissioned and would run until 2023,’ they said. Explain.

However, Steph might be a badass — as the daytime TV personality has turned down Strictly several times before.

Speaking in 2020, the star explained that she was too busy to appear on the dance show at the time: “I’ve actually been asked a few times,” she explained.

Continuing, “I was asked again this year but obviously I had a show to pitch.”

Busy: “They completely understood why she had to say no in the past. She had just established Packed Lunch on Channel 4 and wanted to devote her full attention to it,' the insider said

But not ruling out an appearance, the presenter said she “may” do so in the future when asked by a guest on her show.

If she were to appear, Steph would be following in the footsteps of her Packed Lunch co-star John Whaite – who appeared on the show last year.

The chef was a hit with viewers, as he appeared in the show’s first all-male partnership, with pro Johannes Radebe.

John and Johannes’ partnership even won the gong for Media Moment at this week’s LGBT awards after the stint.
