Clarets suffer first defeat in 18 games at Bramall Lane Burnley suffered their first defeat since August on Saturday afternoon, despite Clarets leading 2-1 at the break thanks to a Manuel Benson brace, a second-half brace from Oli McBurnie and strikes from Anel Ahmedhodžić and Jack Robinson sealed the victory for the Blades at Bramall Lane.

Vincent Kompany made three changes from the side who beat Rotherham United 3-2 on Wednesday night, as Josh Cullen replaced the suspended Josh Brownhill in central midfield, with Samuel Bastien and Benson replacing Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Jay Rodriguez.

First half

It was a spirited start in South Yorkshire, with both teams diving straight into the action, in a mouth-watering lunchtime clash for any neutral.

The Clarets started brilliantly, as did Benson, as the in-form wide player beat Enda Stevens down the right, before bursting in and curling an effort away from Wes Foderingham’s goal.

United then went close with 15 minutes on the clock, as Blades striker McBurnie eyed a header from a corner just over the bar from close range.

All in one word: organization. If the defensive unit had been organised, rather than watching the ball from set pieces, we wouldn’t have scored 5 goals. Muric was terrible at commanding his area and taking any ball above shoulder height. I think we loaned out Peacock-Farrell after scoring 5 goals, it’s time to do the same for Muric or everyone will exploit his obvious weakness.
