The 6-footer is out of contract at the end of the season, however, and the Millers don’t have the option of activating an additional year.
However, it is understood Barlaser is based in South Yorkshire and talks are expected to start soon over a new deal.
The former Accrington Stanley man was in excellent form against Michael Appleton’s men on Wednesday night as the Millers cruised to a 3-0 win.

“You have to respect the teams that pick you up because they are very good teams.
“I said I’ll go into this season and see how I take it from there. You have to respect what your club wants. Rotherham didn’t want to sell and personally I didn’t really want to go there.
“I play week after week here. I have a year left. I don’t see the point of going there. We’ll see what really happens.
“I haven’t received an offer from the club yet, but it usually comes a bit later. I haven’t really thought about it.”
Barlaser leads the league in assists with four after the first six weeks of the campaign.
