‘Rooster’ to remember at Blackburn’s Night at Museum

The BLACKBURN Museum will host the 11th Night at the Museum tonight hosted by promoter and music lover Pete Eastwood.

The annual event has seen some big names in the music world come to Blackburn to give an intimate performance in this unlikely setting.

Previous headliners have included Nick Heyward of Haircut 100, Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze, Jade Bird and Sylvain Sylvain of The New Yorl Dolls.

This year it’s the turn of Simon Fowler and Ocean Color Scene’s Oscar Harrison, with the event selling out before details of who would be playing were revealed.

And it will be a particularly poignant evening, as the event takes place on the one-year anniversary of the death of Craig Dunstan, one of Night of the Museum’s biggest supporters and dedicated Ocean Color Scene fan.

“I got to know Craig, or Rooster as we called him then, in the late 1970s,” Pete said. “Rooster was the bassist for local band Faded Image, and our friendship blossomed through our Saturday morning ritual at the town library cafe (too young for pubs at the time), sharing our love of vinyl records , designer clothes and everything related to The Jam.

After losing contact, the couple reconnected at the Wickerman Festival in Scotland in 2010, where Pete worked as official videographer.

“He and his wife Tracy were crossing the field,” Pete recalled. “I asked him if they were hanging around for the night’s standout band, Ocean Color Scene. ‘Hanging around’ he said ‘We are with them’. It turned out that he had formed a great friendship with his favorite band and followed them everywhere.

“We rekindled our friendship after that fateful encounter and have regularly attended concerts together over the years.

“Craig and Tracy were fantastic supporters of my events and were always up front on the front lines.”

Pete and Craig were both diagnosed with cancer and although Pete had been cancer free for five years, Craig died last year aged 55.

“Craig was one of the nicest human beings I’ve ever met. To me that meant he was attending my events,” Pete said. was to be in memory of my friend, and I did everything I could to secure Simon and Oscar from his beloved band, they thought of Craig’s world, so they agreed to play for us.

Pete must reserve a front row seat at every future event in Craig’s memory.
