Olympic Curling Team Shares ‘Incredible’ Aftermath of Gold Medal

Team GB’s women’s curling team shared their life since winning gold at the Beijing Olympics in a new interview.

Eve Muirhead, Vicky White, Jennifer Dodds, Hailey Duff and Mili Smith won Team GB’s only gold medal at this year’s games by thrashing Japan 10-3.

After their epic victory, they described the whirlwind of emotions they had felt since returning home and how touched they were to receive a congratulatory message from the Queen.

“It was such a great honor to receive a message from the Queen,” team captain Muirhead told Hello! magazine.

“To think that, even though she had Covid-19, she was thinking of us…it’s a huge privilege and it just goes to show that what we’ve done is amazing.”

The 31-year-old, who was pictured with her team-mates in glamorous outfits for the magazine’s interview, also talks about the hero’s welcome she received on her return home to Scotland.

“My route was decorated with balloons and streamers and there were around 200 people, including children, waiting for me to arrive,” she said.

“It was mental. Unbelievable! It’s amazing to know that I have such a good neighborhood.

Vice-captain White says how happy she was to get more than her fiancé Greg Drummond’s silver medal in curling at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

“I improved Greg, which is amazing,” she said.

“I had eight years in which he beat me to his silver medal, so now if he says anything I can just wave mine and say ‘Remember, I got the silver medal. ‘gold!

Dodds remembers how she overcame disappointment in the games, finishing fourth with partner Bruce Mouat in the mixed doubles before winning the women’s title.

“It was really hard to cash in,” she told the magazine.

“But the girls were very supportive of me and once we started the round robin it was pushed to the back of my head.”

She adds, “We’ve been through a total roller coaster together and I don’t think I would want four more girls by my side because I think we complement each other so well.

“I think we’re all enjoying it and enjoying the ride.”
