Notes: Liverpool’s Tyler Morton stars in Blackburn Rovers win

Kept a fifth clean sheet in his 100th league appearance. His best save came from denying Rathbone early on, as he was quickly off his line to deny Wiles just before the break. He took no chances with his distribution.

Dom Hyam seven

Earns the tag of “Reliable Dom” after another assured display. Won five headers, kept his distribution simple and helped Rovers to a clean sheet.

Daniel Ayala seven

Was left isolated against Ogbene in the first half but Rovers did better in containing the quick striker in the second.

Scott Warton 8

Was a set piece threat, getting the end of two Morton deliveries. Rovers’ distribution looks much better with him in the team and made a nice block to deny Ogbene at the end of the first half.

ryan hedges 8

While his starting position was right-back, he was everywhere except when Rovers had the ball. Should have been more selfish trying to seize an opportunity in the second half and take good positions throughout.

Harry Pickering 8

Made an excellent pass before the penalty and another in the second half to set up Hedges. Took smart positions in central positions to get involved in the build-up.

Tyler Morton 9

The beating heart of all that was good at Rovers, with eye-catching passing and tempo in his game. His breaking into the box won the penalty, though it was from his set plays that Rovers looked a threat all afternoon.

Lewis Travis seven

Completed 94% of his passes, but it was his work off the ball that made him the perfect foil for Morton.

Sam Szmodics 8

Couldn’t adjust his header to turn in a Hedges cross early in the second half, but found a perfect cross to help Brereton, before scoring with a composed finish.

Sam Gallagher seven

Gave Rovers an exit down the right and could easily have earned Rovers a second penalty, while his extra height was a welcome addition to the attack. Will still want to add more of a goal threat to their game, having failed to make a goal attempt.

Ben Brereton 8

Rovers confidently took the lead and found the crucial second place with an excellent first time through Szmodics’ cross. Had a long-range shot over the top in his quest for a hat-trick before being substituted.

Tyrhys Dolan (for Brereton, 73) 7

Was instrumental in Rovers’ third goal shortly after coming on as a slide to Szmodics. Now has five assists to add to his three goals this season.

Clinton Mola (for Pickering, 80) 6

George Hirst (for Gallagher, 80) 6

Adam Wharton (for Morton, 87) 6

Bradley Dack (for Szmodics, 87) 6

Not used: Aynsley pears, Callum Brittain
