New Lancashire Covid Cases As Blackpool, Preston Record Over 100 Infections

There have been 873 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Lancashire in the past 24 hours, according to Public Health England.

More than 100 cases have been recorded in Blackpool and Preston.

The number of new infections is down slightly from 893 yesterday, but up from 718 cases confirmed on Wednesday and 658 identified on Tuesday.

West Lancashire recorded the biggest daily peak, dropping from 45 to 86, while Lancaster recorded the biggest drop, from 113 to 86.

The government said 164 more people died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 on Saturday, bringing the UK total to 135,147.

Separate figures released by the Office for National Statistics show that there have been 159,000 registered deaths in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

At 9 a.m. on Saturday, there had been 30,144 more laboratory-confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the UK, the government said.

Government data up to September 17 also shows that of the 92,905,614 Covid injections administered in the UK, 48,548,506 were first doses, an increase of 19,605 the day before.

Some 44,357,108 were second doses, an increase of 59,032.
