Nathan Jones uses Blackburn Rovers status with Luton Town comparison after ‘wonderful’ win

Nathan Jones was delighted to beat Blackburn Rovers and believes Luton Town can compete with the best in the Championship.

After a poor first half, the Hatters took control of the game with goals from Carlton Morris and Reece Burke securing their first home win of the season. For Rovers, it is now five defeats in their first ten, including four in their last five matches.

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side arrived at Kenilworth Road third and Jones highlighted the quality of his side to beat Rovers. The Welshman also compared the depth of the two teams, insisting that Luton need to remember where they are in the pyramid.

“We should be better with the points, but we have to prove it,” Jones said. “Blackburn have played 10, won five and lost five.

“I think we’ve been more consistent with our performances, but we don’t care. Our best performances have been league-leading Sheffield United and Blackburn.

“Blackburn have fantastic players, they’ve signed players. They have fantastic firepower and the most marketed centre-forward in Chile’s history, it’s crazy.

“We are very proud of today’s victory against former Premier League opponents, they have won the Premier League. This is what we are up against and we have no divine right to win a match.

“We have a recent history and a strong past but that doesn’t give us any rights. We have to work hard because there are a lot of good teams in this division.”

“It was a wonderful performance, especially in the second half,” Jones added of the performance. “We didn’t really score in the second half at home so we really focused on that, they had to come back from midweek where we weren’t good but we should have won the game anyway .

“They had to deal with a lot but today we were magnificent. In the second half we were aggressive, we pressed, we looked threatening and we should have had more.

“Jordan Clark passed it to Cauley when he should have shot, Cauley had a volley and we had some really good chances to do more so it was a wonderful performance.”
