At first glance, Burnley’s reported interest in Lyon star Maxwel Cornet seems like another exotic link that won’t bear fruit.
We have seen in the past a multitude of names from all over Europe linked to Burnley and since Steven Defour the Clarets have not signed a player from the Continent.
And while Cornet ties at this point remain speculation, it further shows a modified transfer strategy at Turf Moor.

Nathan Collins’ signing at the start of the window was a statement of intent with Burnley appealing to a 20-year-old capable of fighting for a first-team spot from the start and with the ability to develop further .
The hope, under the new ALK owners, is that Burnley can marry the movements of profitable and experienced Premier League players with the signings of young players who are able to play now, grow further and have resale value.
Collins fits into this latest installment while Cornet, at 24, also has the potential to expand into the English game and end up making a profit on Turf which should be sold.
Of course, for that to happen, it would have to happen and only time will tell if a move goes through.
And it’s important to say that the summer approach won’t stop Burnley from looking at what has been proven to work.
Their interest in Marc Albrighton at Leicester City is genuine and he is the perfect example of a seasoned and proven Premier League player, the type Dyche admires and values ââwith his hard work, ability and versatility.
The double transfer policy is designed to provide Dyche with a competitive squad and ensure the Clarets can make money on any potential sales down the line, similar to the arrival and departure of Michael Keane where Burnley achieved a nice profit.
With just over a month to go to the start of the new campaign and seven weeks to go, there is plenty of time for Burnley to move in a market that remains sluggish due to the European Championships.
Dyche has spoken positively in his conversation with the club’s media channel upon his return to Barnfield and he hopes to reflect on a job well done at the end of the transfer window.
