The M65 in east Lancashire was closed in both directions this evening due to a ‘police incident’.
The motorway was closed between exit 5 for Shadsworth and exit 6 for Blackburn.
Congestion is back in Darwen at junction 4 and in Accrington at junction 7.
Lancashire Police have confirmed the motorway closure as being linked to ‘welfare concerns’.
In a Twitter post at 5:53 pm this evening, Highways England said: “The # M65 in both directions # J5 (#Shadsworth) to # J6 (#Blackburn) is being CLOSED due to an incident of police.
“Traffic officers and @LancsRoadPolice are currently on the scene.”
The Inrix traffic alert service said: “The M65 in both directions closed, traffic very slow due to a police incident between J5 A6077 (Guide / Shadsworth) and J6 A6119 Whitebirk Drive (Blackburn / Whitebirk Roundabout).
“Congestion at junctions 4 and 7.
“The road was closed between Junctions 5 and 6 around 5:55 PM, having initially been closed at Junction 5.”
