Leeds United could challenge West Ham United for Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz this summer.
That’s according to a report from TEAMtalk which claims Leeds could return for the Chile international after ex-manager Marcelo Bielsa rejected the chance to sign him last summer.
West Ham boss David Moyes is desperate to bring a new striker to the London stadium this summer, as is Leeds manager Jesse Marsch at Elland Road.

Michail Antonio is the only centre-forward option Hammers boss Moyes has at his disposal, while Patrick Bamford’s ongoing injury problems will be a big concern for Los Blancos.
There are still a few months until the transfer window opens, but that doesn’t mean clubs aren’t already securing deals for priority transfer targets.
And it looks like Moyes and Marsch could face off for the same player this summer…
Leeds will challenge West Ham for the signing of Brereton Diaz
According to a report from TEAMtalk, the West Yorkshire side are ready to battle the East Londoners throughout the race to sign the 22-year-old striker.
And it’s no wonder why. Ben Brereton Diaz has really impressed since the start of the 2021/22 campaign and he appears to have reached a whole new level for Blackburn.
The 22-year-old has been in fine form for Blackburn this season and has scored 20 goals in 30 league games (Transfermarkt).
Brereton Diaz is a hard working striker who is 6ft 1in tall, he is also tall and strong.
Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray recently praised the Chile international, as quoted by Lancs Live:
“Brereton with the ball at his feet is an extraordinary talent. He’s a wonderful footballer who can dribble with both feet, get people out of the game.”
After struggling for the first few years of his career, it looks like he received a real boost of confidence being part of the Chilean team.
Brereton Diaz has great movement, impressive physical attributes and is a fantastic finisher. The Sun estimate he will be available for around £25million.
It seems like a pretty exorbitant fee to pay for someone who is out of contract in the summer of 2023. And it’s debatable whether West Ham or Leeds will be willing to pay that kind of money for the striker. .
Perhaps if Blackburn lowered their demands to £15-20million that would be a fairer price to pay.
That said, if West Ham and Leeds fight over the signing of Brereton Diaz this summer, Blackburn may well be in a position to start a bidding war.
The Chilean would certainly offer Moyes an option he doesn’t otherwise have at the London stadium. We think he would be a very smart addition for the Hammers. Whether we can beat Los Blancos in the race for his signature remains to be seen.
