Newcastle United reportedly asked Burnley about Dwight McNeil last month, and now we know what the Clarets want for him.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a return to the Premier League, after his side were relegated last season.
According to Sky Sports, West Ham and Crystal Palace have both made moves to sign the talented winger. And they add that Burnley will ask him for a fee of at least £15million.
It’s relatively cheap in the current climate, and it’s a price that Newcastle might like.
Newcastle have already asked about Dwight McNeil
90min claimed last month that Newcastle had asked Burnley about McNeil’s availability. They said Eddie Howe was a big fan of him and identified him as a target even before their relegation was confirmed.
That appears to be as far as Newcastle’s interest has gone at the moment, with the Magpies focusing on other targets. The club are keen to sign a new winger, Moussa Diaby being our priority target. However, he has now decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen.
Newcastle will therefore have to look elsewhere, and McNeil for a small fee could appeal.
Dan Ashworth has already dealt with Burnley this summer, with Nick Pope arriving for £10million. We also signed Chris Wood in January, and he’s a huge McNeil’s fan.
The New Zealander called McNeil ‘extraordinary’ after scoring a stunning goal during the Premier League’s lockdown era. The pair had a great understanding at Turf Moor, and that could be rekindled at St James’ Park.
It’s unclear whether or not Newcastle are interested in McNeil after their initial enquiry. He’s a man in demand, but a sum of around £15million makes him very accessible for the Magpies.
McNeil could be another shrewd signing if we decide to move this summer.
