Everton and Leeds United Premier League run-in stats that offer Burnley a lifeline

Burnley’s run-in in the Premier League offers the Clarets a lifeline with data showing Sean Dyche’s side have a significantly better fixture list in the final weeks of the campaign.

The Clarets are 18th in the table and four points from safety after a weekend loss to the basement boys of Norwich City. It came after a win over relegation rivals Everton, with both sides having eight games to play.

Leeds United are nine points clear but have just six games to go while Watford and Norwich will hope to finish strong as they try to escape the fall. But it is Burnley who is best placed to do so depending on the running-in of each club.

Opta Analyst have calculated each club’s number of games remaining based on their opponents’ points per game and Burnley have the ‘easiest’ race in the bottom seven. They face a 1.10, seventh best in the top flight.

In contrast, Leeds United, Norwich and Everton are all in the top five with rankings of 1.37, 1.27 and 1.27 respectively. The Toffees are yet to face Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal while Leeds face four successive games against first-half opponents including Man City and Chelsea.

And while we’ve seen plenty of surprise results, especially at this time of the season, Burnley have opportunities for wins. Sean Dyche’s side still have away games against Watford and Newcastle United while home games with Southampton, Wolves and Aston Villa could net points.

Burnley have the easiest run-in on paper of their relegation rivals

Indeed, five of Burnley’s last eight games have been against teams currently in the bottom half of the table while the Clarets head to a West Ham side this weekend who will face a second leg in the Europa League quarter-finals. against Lyon in France tonight. Dyche’s men also play three times before Leeds are back in action, with Everton only playing once in that time, giving Burnley the chance to put pressure on their rivals.
