Burnley transfer state of play as Michael Obafemi update emerges amid Marcel Lewis link

Burnley are ready to scrap a deal with Swansea City over striker Michael Obafemi.

The Clarets have seen two offers rejected for the leader and are not ready to pay the £10m asking price for a player who cost just £1.5m when he joined the Welsh club from Southampton a year ago. Burnley are keen on the Ireland international and have been trying to sign a striker for much of the summer.

But as things stand, a deal looks hard to come by unless the Swans are willing to accept a heavily structured deal or lower the price. Boss Vincent Kompany has spoken on several occasions this summer about not “doing anyone’s summer” by paying the odds and the Clarets have worked hard to balance the books this summer following relegation from the Premier League. Burnley are more than happy with the business done so far and therefore don’t need to hunt for late deals.

Kompany talked about looking for one or two additions to the squad with the attack and center half of the areas targeted. The Clarets have confirmed the arrival of Halil Dervisoglu on loan from Brentford and are expected to confirm a deal for Jordan Beyer on a season-long loan from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the coming hours.

The defender is capable of playing at right-back and centre-half and provides an extra option in an area of the squad that Burnley have been keen to strengthen.

Burnley have also been linked with Union SG midfielder Marcel Lewis with The Telegraph suggesting a two-year deal is on the table for the 20-year-old. That deal should be done before the 11 p.m. deadline.

The Clarets aren’t expected to part ways with their main squad despite speculation linking Josh Brownhill with a Premier League move, but Burnley could see goalkeeper Will Norris leave while Aro Muric’s injury means Bailey Peacock-Farrell shouldn’t move on. Defender Bobby Thomas has gone on loan to Bristol Rovers in League One while Adam Phillips is set to sign for third tier Barnsley on a permanent deal before the window closes.
