Burnley in a £ 2million transfer offer from England international James Hill with defender Fleetwood’s contract expiring

BURNLEY wants to snatch England Under-20 center-half James Hill from fellow Lancashire Fleetwood.

The Clarets are keen to win the chase and present an offer of around £ 2million for the youngster, who regularly plays League One football.

Hill, 19, is out of contract and the Cod Army can handle it now.

They could try their luck in court if he leaves this summer, but an earlier clean sale might be better for them.

The defender made his senior debut for Fleetwood in the EFL Cup in 2018, aged 16.

Hill first appeared for the Three Lions U-20 against Romania in September.

Burnley has 20-year-old center-half Bobby Thomas to send on loan which could help the transfer pass.

Premier League wrestlers are also monitoring Ross Barkley’s situation at Chelsea, for an emergency blow in January.

The midfielder only has limited playing time at Stamford Bridge and could be on loan in the next window.

Barkley, 27, was on Sean Dyche’s radar this summer.

But there was no encouragement from the player so soon after a return from loan to Aston Villa.

Burnley is willing to pay part of his huge salary for half a season to help them get out of the drop zone.

And unless Chelsea are hit by an injury crisis, Barkley looks sure he is available.
