Burnley caused another Premier League headache after Southampton beat West Ham in the FA Cup

Burnley have been handed a further Premier League fixture after Southampton’s FA Cup win over West Ham on Wednesday night.

The Clarets were due to host the Saints on Saturday March 19 in a televised evening on Sky Sports.

But Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side will now be in the FA Cup quarter-finals after beating the Hammers, meaning Burnley’s game will be moved to later in the season.

Sean Dyche’s men already have away games at Aston Villa and at home to Everton to sign up and both of these teams will be playing this weekend so the prospect of a last minute deal is not possible .

The top flight is going on a two-week international break after the last eight FA Cup games, meaning the Clarets’ game with Southampton will be pushed back to April at the earliest.

Burnley have no longer scheduled midweek fixtures but will need to find three dates to accommodate their rearranged games.

Saints’ victory means the Clarets’ clash with West Ham on April 19 – the weekend of the FA Cup semi-final – can go ahead as planned given David Moyes’ side are now ruled out of the match. the national cup competition.

Signing up for Aston Villa’s away day, postponed at short notice last year due to a Covid camp within Villa’s ranks, should be relatively straightforward given Steven Gerrard’s side n have more than Premier League commitments.

Indeed, the teams could meet twice in a short space of time given that they are due to face each other at Turf Moor on May 7.

Fitting into Everton’s game will be a little trickier given the Toffees have played 24 league games, so more games to rearrange, while if Frank Lampard’s side knock Boreham Wood out of the FA league Cup tonight, they will need a new date for their game with Watford later this month.

Progress to the last four and Everton’s April fixture against Crystal Palace will also need to be rearranged, potentially adding another layer to game congestion.

The Premier League season ends on May 22.
