- LIVE: Blackpool 0-0 Bristol City
- Seasiders return to Bloomfield Road for first of consecutive home games
- Michael Appleton without SEVEN players
Due to injuries and Sonny Carey’s suspension, Michael Appleton doesn’t have much of a choice if we’re being brutally honest.
The Blackpool head coach opted to change things up last week to quash threats from Burnley, moving Shayne Lavery to the right, starting with two deep midfielders and giving Josh Bowler a free role in the center .
Will Appleton stick to Bristol City?
“They are all a challenge.
“I had a conversation with a friend of mine last night and we were talking about teams that seem strong, but the reality is that every game is tough.
“I can’t remember the last time I walked into a game feeling ridiculously confident that we were going to win it, because every game is tough.
“I think people sometimes forget that the opposition want to win as much as you do and that’s what makes it a brilliant game, especially at this level.
“You just have to look at some of the teams that are on the wrong side of the table after five games, clubs that you probably wouldn’t expect and probably won’t be there for the next 10 games or so.
“I know Nige well, I worked with him at West Brom. I know what he is talking about and he is a good footballer.
“He really organizes his teams and there is a lot of energy in this group now. He had to work very hard to eliminate certain players of a certain type and he recruited and brought in young energy.
Michael Appleton will be without SEVEN players for today’s game.
Sonny Carey is serving the first game of his three-match ban following his red card in the 3-3 draw against Burnley.
The Seasiders appealed against the decision, but the FA’s independent commission rejected it.
Elsewhere, Luke Garbutt, Kevin Stewart, Charlie Patino, Lewis Fiorini, Keshi Anderson and Jake Beesley all remain sidelined.
As for Bristol City, dangerman Andi Weimann could miss out after being ruled out of their midweek Carabao Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers. Joe Williams also did not play.
Blackpool have started the season well, picking up seven points from their first five games, which puts them in 11th place in the Championship table.
Michael Appleton’s side will be aiming for their third win of the campaign this afternoon when they take on Nigel Pearson’s side at Bloomfield Road.
The Seasiders started the season with a hard-earned win over Reading, before picking up their first three points on the road against QPR.
They lost to Stoke City and Swansea City, while in their last outing they came from behind to draw 3-3 in a scintillating Lancashire derby against Burnley.
As for today’s opponents, Bristol City have won their last three league and cup games and are on the same record as the Seasiders in the league, with two wins, one draw and two losses.
Pearson’s side sit in seventh place due to their biggest goal difference.
Today’s game will be refereed by Jeremy Simpson, who captained three Blackpool games last season (the 3-2 win over Reading, the 3-2 loss to Huddersfield Town and the 2-1 loss to West Brom) .
And welcome to today’s live blog.
Blackpool return to Bloomfield Road this afternoon as they host Bristol City on the Fylde Coast for the first of their consecutive home matches.
The Seasiders have had their travels well, picking up four points in their two away games against QPR and Burnley – but Michael Appleton will be looking to build on that at home.
