Blackpool Hotel Owner’s Response to TripAdvisor’s Allegations of “Flat Tire” and “Strange” Behavior During Travel

The owner of a Blackpool hotel hit back at a TripAdvisor reviewer who said he “didn’t understand personal space at all”.

The guest, who stayed at the Somerville Hotel in June, decided to leave a review about his stay two months later. User Lizzy21 called the hotel “mediocre” and said “Avoid! They constantly sit with you for breakfast! Don’t give Keith your car keys! ‘

The Station Road Hotel, co-owned by Sheila and Keith, is a licensed hotel that offers en suite rooms and caters to families.

Sheila told LancsLive this year has been “the toughest season” as a hotelier in Blackpool, with tourists coming to the resort due to travel restrictions.

She said she and her husband, Keith, “try to help people” as much as they can and do “their best” to make sure guests have a comfortable stay.

User Lizzy21 said they had “thought extremely long and hard” before writing the review of their stay from Wednesday to Sunday.

They said the hotel was “ok”, although the bar “never seems to be open” and is “stocked with clothes, toys and other items”. They also said their room was “clean” and “fine”, although they “got by” with the fact that it was on the top floor of the hotel.

Lizzy21 added that co-owners Shelia and Keith “don’t understand personal space at all!”

They wrote: “Every morning when I went to smoke a cigarette before breakfast, they were right next to me and after that they sat next to me and my family throughout breakfast. !

“It was extremely strange, even my sons found it extremely strange! At breakfast we want peace to eat, not to sit and talk about politics at 9 am!”

The review went on to say that co-owner Keith “kept saying” that guests gave him their car keys, “to the point that it was as if he demanded them.”

They explained that Keith wanted to move their car from the back of the hotel to the front once a seat became available.

Lizzy21 wrote: “And guess what happened? We have a HUGE nail stuck in our tire!

They claimed that Keith was “the last to drive” the car and parked the vehicle “to prevent” them from seeing the flat tire.

The Somerville Hotel is located on Station Road and is rated “excellent” on TripAdvisor.

Lizzy21 wrote: “When confronted he acted completely stupid and never offered any help !! £ 178 we had to pay for a new tire just to get home! Will never stay here again and I wouldn’t recommend anyone else to stay!

“You basically live in someone’s house, Sheila constantly tells you how much she hates what she does and can’t wait to quit because she’s fed up with guests! And constantly sitting down with us every morning. breakfast is really weird! So the tire was just the icing on the cake and offered absolutely NO help after causing it! “

Somerville Hotel co-owner Sheila Cassells responded to the review.

Sheila wrote: “Thanks for your review, we’re sorry if we talked to you as we were only friendly. We didn’t talk to you every day because you said you weren’t the only guest.”

Sheila explained that the “mess everywhere” was caused by “folding dishes” in the bar during the day. She said: “But (it) got moved because I ironed it and put it away, and the toys in the area are for the kids.”

Sheila continued, “If we scared you and our hotel is as bad as you are trying to make it look, why didn’t you book earlier because you didn’t pay before you left. tire, you can’t blame Keith, it could have happened on the way down because he told you you had a slow punch (sic) when he moved it. “

Sheila then said: “As for you moaning about the mess around the hotel, my towel must have been thrown in with heavy black makeup. Our housekeeper asked you if you had any trash in the room, you said NO, we got 3 black bags of pizza and takeout boxes. “

The Somerville Hotel is ranked # 323 of 893 B & Bs in Blackpool. They are rated “Excellent” overall on TripAdvisor, based on 93 customer reviews.

Sheila and Keith were described as “fabulous hosts” by another guest who visited in August, another saying they are “welcoming and friendly from the start”.
