Blackburn Rovers star Ben Brereton Diaz could miss Coventry City shock thanks to Chile call

The Blackburn Rovers could do without star striker Ben Brereton Diaz when they face Coventry City next month, after Chile called the fit star to their international squad.

Ben Brereton Diaz has become a Chilean sensation after changing international allegiance earlier this year.

The former England junior international, who qualifies for La Roja thanks to his mother, has appeared in the Copa America five times this summer, scoring a goal, providing an assist and becoming a favorite among Chilean fans.

Now it has emerged from the Lancashire Telegraph that Blackburn has agreed to let him join Chile for the second time at the next international break.

The report says Brereton Diaz will be in the squad for the clashes against Peru and Paraguay before returning to England, where he will quarantine himself for five days, giving the government half of the quarantine period for footballers as planned.

What does this mean for Blackburn?

This would remove their new talisman from Blackburn’s draw against Coventry City on October 16, which would be the first game he would miss this season.

However, he would be back in contention for their next game against QPR, which will come three days later on the 19th.

Who could replace Brereton Diaz?

If the Chilean star is ruled out, it would be interesting to see who Tony Mowbray brings in the starting XI to take his place.

Sam Gallagher would likely stay up front, while Tyrhys Dolan was a mainstay behind or on the wing. Two of Ian Poveda, Joe Rothwell, John Buckley or Reda Khadra could feature as attacking midfielders and / or wingers.
