Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool and PNE gave the Championship play-offs a boost after their rivals lost

Blackburn Rovers currently hold the Championship play-offs and are the best placed of Lancashire’s three sides in the second tier of English football to be in the Premier League next campaign.

And that despite yesterday’s 1-0 loss on the road to Reading as Rovers had a number of scoring chances with Sam Gallagher and John Buckley guilty of missing out on glorious chances on either side of the half time.

But with 12 minutes remaining, Josh Laurent found space at the edge of the box to loop the ball past Thomas Kaminski to compound another damaging loss for Rovers in their quest to reach the play-offs.

Blackpool are nine points behind Rovers, who sit sixth in the table as things stand, and Neil Critchley’s side have at least one game in hand over several teams above them in the table .

Ryan Lowe’s Preston North End are just behind their fierce rivals in the table and are perhaps more of an underdog for the top six at this stage, a point behind the Seasiders in the table and having played one game more than the team of Bloomfield Road.

But all three teams received a boost after Sunday’s solitary outing in the Championship.

Play-off hopefuls QPR suffered a surprise 3-1 defeat at home to relegation-threatened Peterborough United.

Luke Amos put the hosts ahead early but Jonson Clarke-Harris equalized before the break.

Clarke-Harris scored from the penalty spot in the second half before Jack Marriott quickly added Posh’s third to give them a two-goal lead.

And that’s how it ended as QPR suffered their second defeat in the space of five days meaning Rovers will remain in the top six during the international break, while Seasiders and PNE have perhaps received a slight boost in their hopes of reaching the top. six in early May.
