The Championship side value the prolific 24-year-old striker at around £ 20million but only has one year left on his contract while his former club Newcastle hold a 40% sell clause.

Southampton saw an opening bid rejected but made an improved bid on Wednesday of £ 10million plus players for Armstrong.

Money is crucial for manager Tony Mowbray who has known Park since his time at Celtic.

Blackburn had high hopes of mounting a promotion challenge last season after making some nifty loan deals and Park will need to get even more creative this summer.

Midfielder Corry Evans has left for Sunderland while Liverpool winger Harvey Elliott returns to Anfield and hopes to make a big impression on Jurgen Klopp during their training camp in Austria this week.
