Arrangements for Public Holidays – Monday, September 19

Most Lancashire County Council services will be closed on Monday September 19, which has been announced as a bank holiday to mark the state funeral of Her Majesty The Queen.

Closures

All Lancashire libraries, museums, archives and county council offices, including the Customer Access Centre, are to close as they do on all public holidays.

Household waste recycling centers will also be closed.

Schools in Lancashire are also expected to follow national advice from the Department for Education and close for the bank holiday. However, the schools are independently run and parents should check with them directly to confirm.

Services remain open with holiday arrangements in place

Public transport and bus stations will operate according to public holiday schedules. Please see operator timetables for details.

Arrangements for the check-in service will ensure that weddings already scheduled for Monday, September 19 can still take place on that day. However, couples are contacted to verify their preferences, in case they prefer to move to another date.

We move the birth registration and marriage appointment notice unless the client wants the registration or appointment notice to take place on that day. The county council will register the deaths if it meant the family had to wait otherwise. People are advised to contact their local registry office for details.

Essential social services, such as county council run child and adult care facilities, respite services and care homes and discharge from social hospital, will operate as normal on Monday 19 September.

Adult Day Service staff should consult with people using the services and their families to understand attendance on September 19 before arrangements for each center are finalized.

The book of condolences, at Christchurch Chapel on the corner of Bow Lane and Fishergate in Preston, will remain open between 9am and 5pm on Monday, and will remain open for signature on Tuesday September 20, 2022 between 9am and 5pm.

People will also be able to pay their respects on the online condolence book.
